The canal fronted Royal Shepherd
The Royal Shepherd, Skipton
Situated
next to the Leeds/Liverpool Canal to the north end of town, the Royal
Shepherd is one of those inns that looks as good from the outside as it
does on the inside. This traditional stone built inn prides itself on
being the only inn in the UK to bear the name "Royal Shepherd" having
been named in honour of George III who was apparently responsible for
introducing the Merino sheep to Britain.
Visitors are treated
to a warm welcome, an excellent range of home-cooked food and
hand-pulled Copper Dragon ales kept in tip-top condition delivered
direct from Skiptons now famous brewery. So if you like a pint of top
ale and traditional grub, you know where to go!
Food on offer includes a range of sumptuous sarnies through to full-blown main courses depending on how hungry you are, all at competitive prices. Particularly popular are the Royal Shepherd Steak pies and peas. Where possible, local produce is used and the variety of dishes on offer is excellent.
Public car parking is available less than 2-minutes walk away over the canal bridge in the pay and display car park. For canal users, simply moor up, jump ashore and enjoy!
